Well on the first day of the Warrnambool carnival (‘Seriously How Bloody Good Is The Bool!!!!!!!!!!’) we finished the month off with two winners from our three SSSS official selections and our Blackbooker finished unplaced.
So while we finished April in the red for our SSSS selections, Rocktober showed a nice profit of 3.69 units or 20% POT.

TOWNSVILLE R3 #1 Mustarrid @ $7.50 (0.77 UNITS WIN). Holding good form and a genuine chance in this class here today and nice overs for the win.
Result: 4th at SP $10.00. Rated $4.60. Off an inside barrier and nice start, found the rails and the lead pretty easily. On the turn was joined by four other horses in a line and Mustrarrid couldn’t maintain its hold on the race and finished in fourth despite finishing respectably. Outcome -0.77 Units.
🏆🏆🏆TAREE R4 #6 Cheat’m @ $5.50 (1.12 UNITS WIN). Ready for a win here at overs after a good run for 2nd last start. Extra 100m should suit.
Result: 1st at SP $4.40, Best Tote $5.30, Betfair $4.70. Rated $3.30. Settled in second, outside the leader off what seemed a decent pace. Got to the lead just after straightening and had a little burst to get a length lead at the 100m mark and held that lead for the win. Outcome + Units.
🏆🏆🏆WARRNAMBOOL R9 #3 More Wanted @ $5.00 (1.25 UNITS WIN). Should be fitter from recent runs and forget last run. Looks good today.
Result: 1st at SP $3.90, Best Tote $3.90, Betfair $4.40. Rated $15.10. Lead on the rails by about a length. In the turn went to the centre of the track and just kept on kicking despite being placed under pressure from the chasers to score on the line. Outcome + Units.

Rocktober selections today came up with two winners from its three selections today. Both winners shortened in the market however unfortunately only one of those winners was an official tip, the other was unofficial as its Starting Price was greater than $8.00. Hopefully a few followed the late market support though.

Result: Unplaced at SP $4.80. Raced outside the leader. Hard ridden in the straight when pressure applied and from then was mainly just one paced, lacking winning pace. Outcome -1.39 Units.

Result: 1st at SP $3.30, Best Tote $3.50, Betfair $3.55. Good market support leading up to the jump. Sat midfield off a decent pace. On the corner moved up nicely and in the straight a nice opening soon to dash away for a comfortable win in the end. Outcome +5.91 Units.

CAULFIELD R1 #8 Miss Street @ $8.50 (0.67 UNITS WIN). Jumps up a peg here but racing in the best form of her career. At overs for the win looks a good bet.
Result: Unplaced at SP $7.50. Rated $8.60. Settled in fourth, behind the leader on the rails. Upon straightening was hard ridden but not picking up the leader and struggled to the line to finish in the last part of the field. Outcome -0.67 Units.
HAWKESBURY R2 #3 Harmatton @ $4.40 (1.48 UNITS WIN). Has won in better class than this. Back to winning distance after a couple of lung busters were very close to the win. A Little overs at this price and worth the bet.
Result: 3rd at SP $5.50. Rated $4.80. Settled in a share of fourth, one of the rails, about two to three lengths from the leaders. Bided its time in the straight and with about 200m to go peeled out to make its case but despite trying its best just couldn’t put in the strides and finish the job and weakened late to finish third. Outcome -1.48 Units.
CAULFIELD R5 #9 Thine Is The Power @ $5.00 (1.25 UNTS WIN). Holding good form and has won better class race than this. Rated well for a win.
Result: Unplaced at SP $5.00. Rated $6.05. Settled midfield on the rails about three lengths from the leader. Stayed to the inside upon straightening and just held ground to the line as winners came down the middle to the outside of the track. Outcome -1.25 Units.
HAWKESBURY R9 #1 Echo Jet @ $7.00 (0.84 UNITS WIN). Winner both starts this prep and rated to win here today for the hat trick.
Result: Unplaced at SP $5.50. Rated $2.70. Nice overlay here. Went forward from the middle barrier to sit in second, just outside the leader who was setting a decent speed. Upon straight was dropped by the leader pretty quickly but despite this dug in its run to the line to finish in fifth. Was well beaten though. Outcome -0.84 Units.
Morphettville R3 #7 Shrouded In Mist @$7.00 0.83u Win Classy mare resuming here off a sound trial. Has won 1st up and stable jock B Vorster has chosen this one over fav stablemate after trial. Happy to follow that lead here.
Result: Unplaced at SP $13.00. Rated $11.50. Eased out to settle in the last part of the field though was three wide with cover. In the straight eased out to be one of the widest runners but never ran on and finished in the last part of the field. Outcome -0.83 Units.

CAULFIELD Race 3 No. 3 Spanner Head @ $5.50 (1.12 UNITS WIN)
Result: 2nd at SP $5.00. Coming from the back was finishing very hard but just too much ground to make up from the winner who lead from start to finish. Brave effort. Outcome -1.12 Units.
CAULFIELD Race 4 No. 1 Saccharo @ $6 (1 UNIT WIN)
Result: Unplaced at SP $7.00. Coming from the last part of the field, kept towards the middle of the track where it encountered a bit of traffic but was never a winning chance. Outcome -1.00 Unit.
MORPHETTVILLE P Race 3 No. 9 Gelignite Jack @ $3.20 (1.5 UNITS WIN)
Result: 3rd at SP $3.50. Coming from a midfield position, didn’t have the finishing pace that the winners who came from the back did in hitting the line. Outcome -1.50 Units.

FLEMINGTON R1 #5 Valac @ $5.00 (1.25 UNITS WIN). Came home like a rocket last start 2nd. Jumps up a peg but loses 7kg from last run.
Result: 3rd at SP $5.00. Rated $5.50. Went forward to sit in second outside the leader and favourite. Beat the leader off early in the straight but weakened late to be overhauled by those running just off the pace and just held on for third. Outcome -1.25 Units.
FLEMINGTON R2 # Written Choice @ $8.00 (0.72 UNITS WIN). Form before last two was excellent and looks like his problem was found. Wins a recent Jump Out and a recent BT. Ready to bounce.
Result: Unplaced at SP $8.50. Rated $12.20. In the only straight race of the day at Flemington, Written Choice settled in third, just behind the leader in the middle of the track. Under pressure from about the 300m mark and weakened late to finish a number of lengths from the winner towards the tail of the seven horse field. Outcome -0.72 Units.
FLEMINGTON R4 #2 Declares War @ $6.00 (1.25 UNITS WIN). A winner this course and distance, drops in class and Jye McNeil is in good form with this stable, Looks a good bet at overs.
Result: Unplaced at SP $6.50. Rated $3.50. Nice overlay. Settled a little worse than midfield on the rails. When looking for the run in the straight could not find any breaks to wind up. Never really got going to finish midfield. Outcome -1.25 Units.
RANDWICK R7 #3 King Hewitt @ $7.50 (0.77 UNITS WIN). Has won FU and with the Kim Waugh magic could perform well if ready. Nicely rated to win at this price.
Result: 3rd at SP $5.50. Rated $6.60. Settled in fourth, one off the rails, a couple of lengths from the leader in the eight horse field. Kept to the rails in the straight and everywhere it went it ran into traffic, with a clear run it could have been a very different story as did finish hard when it finally got out with about 75m to go. Outcome -0.77 Units.
Gawler R8 #7 La La Luchie @$4.6 1.39u Win Has been racing well over shorter distances in higher grades last few and working home well each time. Moves out to more suitable !700m here in lower grade and from Br 1 should be able to spot up closer and run home for a strong win.
Result: Unplaced at SP $6.50. Rated $10.30. Settled midfield on the rails. During the run, get dropped back towards the tail of the field. In the straight, never really pushed and finished towards the tail of the field. Possibly not all is alright with the horse given the run. Outcome –1.39 Units.

On Easter Monday we had one winner from our two selections meaning we ended the day in front. One from the SSSS team which never troubled the leaders and Wee Gilly via Rocktober who came into the race and ran away with victory, saluting by around a length.

Oakbank R5 #9 Sassy Maneuver @$12.00 0.45u Win Strong finishing 3rd this track last start over 1050m was a good pointer to this race over 1100m. Expect good pace here and Sassy will get back and finish hard. Early backing 20's to 12's adds to confidence. Will also take Reward Bet exotics with #3 4 &6.
Result: Unplaced at SP $26.00. Was a drifter prior to the jump. Settled at the tail of the field. Worked into the race nicely, angling out to the outside rail on the turn and while it ran well to the line, was never a threat to the winners finishing in the last part of the field. Exotics missed the winner. Outcome -0.45 Units.

Result: 1st at SP $7.00, Best Tote $8.50, Betfair $8.20. Coming from the midfield, worked its way into the race nicely from just before the turn. Hit the lead from about 250m and kept surging to the line to hold off all challenges to win by over a length. Outcome +5.76 Units.

EAGLE FARM R1 #13 Couldn’t Refuse @ $6.00 (1 UNIT WIN). First run back from a spell and a recent BT shows that this fella is serious about winning first up.
Result: 2nd at SP $7.00. Settled in the last part of the field, on the rails. Stayed on the rails for its run in the straight and while made up ground to finish second never really threatened the winner, Devils Temptation (SP $8.50), who raced on speed and won by a couple of lengths. Outcome -1.00 Unit.

Settled one off the rails in fourth a couple of lengths from the lead.On the turn went up three wide to join the leaders at the top of the straight though at the 300m, its strides went small and dropped back through the field to finish towards the tail. Upon straightening, asked for an effort and hit the front with 200m to go but soon after was putting in the short strides as the winner coming from midfield stormed home to claim victory by a length. Though was about a four length gap to third.
GOSFORD R1 #3 Banteux @ $7.00 (0.84 UNITS WIN). Has a good turn of foot and could motor home over the top fitter second up.
Result: 3rd at SP $7.00. Rated $11.40. In the field of six and from the wide barrier, Banteux settled last on the rails about eight lengths from the leader. Was off and going prior to the turn taking inside runs and while made initially grounds and improved its position, peaked with about 200m to go to finish third. Outcome -0.84 Units.

Kept to the inside for its run home but found no room, scraping the paint off the rails at one stage. Would have made the finish interesting if Bastia did find room in the straight but it wasn’t to be. Outcome -1.12 Units.

Got closer at the turn and peeled out to be the widest runner in the straight. Took a while to get going and by the time it was in full stride, Niccirose was too far back to worry the winners. MORUYA R3 #6 High Potential @ $5.50 (1.12 UNITS WIN). Broke the mdn status last start and could go on with it here for a repeat performance at overs for a win.

Looked to get off the rails on the turn but was tightened for room. Early in the straight, took a very small gap but as soon as it got through the gap, High Potential seemed to peak in its run and had to settle for 4th. Outcome -1.12 Units.

In a field cut down due to scratchings, including the short price favourite prior to the jump, Per Ardua settled behind the speed on the rails in fourth. Got to the outside upon straighening and really knuckled down in the final 300m or so to score a length vicotry. RB Banker missed out on the 2nd placed horse. Outcome +6.04 Units (after deducton)
Gawler R3#1 Dextiny @$3.70 1,25u Win 4yo mare unlucky last start and drawn to have run of race here. Two first starters also in the market but are drawn very wide. Also Aray of Sunshine which beat Dextiny last start lines up as Fav in R8 here and adds confidence to prospects of Dextiny here.
Result: 4th at SP $2.80. Jumped well and settled on the rails in second, on the tail of the leader. On the turn, put up its challenge to the leader though was never able to overtake the leader and ended up finishing a long way 4th. Outcome -1.25 Units.

Well it was nice to start the new month off with a close winner however later in the day we were edged into 2nd via a photo.
At the end of the day, SSSS returned a small win if you were with Best Tote or Betfair though unfortunately due to deductions, fixed better had a small loss.
Rocktober one selection could only manage a minor placing so small loss there. Though since the Rocktober and SSSS selection were the same, I suspect some punters would have only backed the horse once instead of twice.

In the straight, kept to its game and despite being three wide was just too good in the straight to score a narrow victory on the line. Outcome +4.30 Units (after deductions).
BENDIGO R3 #6 Bowing @ $7.50 (0.77 UNITS WIN). Another with a couple of good jump outs under the belt with a positive gear change.
Result: 3rd at SP $11.00. In the field of seven, settled at the tail of the field on the rails. On the turn was the widest runner and made up a fair bit of ground in the straight to claim third, though was just too much ground to make up to claim victory. Outcome -0.77 Units.

As a result took its time to take that gap and find clean air and this delay most likely cost it victory. No luck on the saver, didn’t have the winner. Outcome -1.00 Unit.

Was four wide on the turn and kept finding the line respectably given its tough run to hold third though was no match for the leader. Saver RB had the winner but only in the extended numbers. Outcome -1.50 Units.
BENDIGO R8 #3 American In Paris @ $6.50 (0.91 UNITS WIN). Dual Acc today and this race suits after his FU win after striking a little trouble up the straight.
Result: 2nd at SP $7.00. Rated $8.50. Settled in fifth, on the rails, about four lengths from the leader. A couple of pre straight moves were made mid race and while American In Paris dropped down in positions, kept its distance from the leader. On the turn, moved wide to find clean air pretty easily to make it run home. Hit the lead with about 150m to go but just couldn’t hold out the fast finishing back marker to finish a very close second. Outcome -0.91 Units.
